CM Maryam Nawaz Approves Mega Road Projects, June is the deadline

Lahore – April 14th, 2026 Punjab is set for a major transport upgrade after Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif approved key road infrastructure projects, including new ring roads and major highway improvements across the province.

These new road projects are important for people in Punjab because they can reduce travel time, improve trade routes, and make daily commuting easier. Better roads also support jobs, business growth, and stronger links between cities like Lahore, Multan, and Sialkot.

In a high-level meeting, the Chief Minister approved several major development projects for the road sector. This includes the SL-4 section of the Lahore Ring Road project and initial approval for the Sialkot Ring Road stretch connecting Wazirabad Road to Sialkot–Pasrur Road.

Officials said these projects are part of a wider plan to improve connectivity across key urban and industrial areas in Punjab.

The Lahore Ring Road SL-4 project is expected to improve traffic flow in one of Pakistan’s busiest cities. It aims to reduce congestion and help vehicles move faster between major entry and exit points.

For Sialkot, the new ring road section will improve access to industrial zones. This can support export businesses and reduce delays in transport.

Progress on Multan–Vehari Road

The meeting also reviewed progress on the Multan–Vehari Road project. Authorities confirmed that base and sub-base work has been completed, while asphalt laying is still in progress.

The Chief Minister directed departments to speed up work while ensuring construction quality is not affected.

Officials informed that Punjab’s road sector currently includes 2,143 total projects. Out of these, 258 are under construction.

Under the Road Rehabilitation Program Phase-I, more than 80 schemes were launched, with 38 already completed. In Phase-II, over 40 schemes were started, 18 completed, and 25 are still in progress.

The government has set a clear deadline to complete all road projects by June 30, with regular progress reports required from departments.

Punjab has been investing heavily in road development to improve regional connectivity and support economic activity. These projects are part of a long-term infrastructure upgrade plan aimed at modernizing transport systems across the province.
