PMD Issues Rain Alert For Punjab, Kashmir and KP, Weekly Weather Breakdown

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts hot and humid conditions in most parts of the country, while monsoon currents will bring scattered rain, wind, and thunderstorms to northern regions, Kashmir, and isolated southern areas over the coming week.

Hot and humid weather will persist across central and southern Pakistan through August 21, but intermittent monsoon rains will bring temporary relief to upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and parts of Balochistan.

According to the official Pakistan Meteorological Department weekly forecast, monsoon currents penetrating the upper and central parts of the country are driving isolated to scattered rainfall. Travelers, tourists, and residents in hilly regions are advised to stay updated on local road conditions due to potential localized landslides and sudden weather shifts.

Detailed Regional Forecast (August 16–21)

Weather conditions vary significantly across the country over the next six days:

  • Islamabad & Rawalpindi: Hot and humid conditions during the day, with evening or night chances of rain-wind and thundershowers on selected days.
  • Northeastern Punjab & Potohar Region: Areas including Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, and Lahore will experience hot weather, interrupted by evening rain-wind/thundershowers at isolated places.
  • Kashmir & Gilgit-Baltistan: Rain-wind and thunderstorms are expected at scattered places in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Mirpur, Diamir, Astore, and Skardu, with occasional heavy falls in Kashmir.

Potential Impacts and Public Advisory

The PMD highlighted several operational advisories for the public, farmers, and travelers during this period:

  • Landslides in Mountainous Areas: Vulnerable routes in Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa face a risk of minor landslides during heavy downpours.
  • Urban Drainage: Heavy localized falls in urban centers of upper Punjab may cause temporary water accumulation in low-lying areas.
  • Travel Caution: Tourists planning visits to northern areas are urged to check official weather updates before starting their journeys.
