Starting May 3, 2026, a strict new travel rule will affect families flying for the Hajj 2026. Saudi Arabian authorities and the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) have announced an immediate ban on children under the age of 15 traveling on Hajj flights.

For parents with very young children, the rules are even stricter. All Hajj visas issued to children under the age of 15 are now officially cancelled.

If you are traveling with family this week, here is what you need to know about the sudden policy change.

Why Did Saudi Arabia Change the Rules?

The primary reason for this urgent decision is passenger safety. Hajj 2026 falls during a period of extreme summer heat in Saudi Arabia. Temperatures in Makkah are expected to cross 40°C.

Saudi authorities want to protect vulnerable younger pilgrims from severe heatstroke and health risks in massive crowds. Managing young children in these extreme conditions has become a major safety concern.

Key Details of the New Travel Rule

This directive is actively enforced at major departure hubs, including Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. According to reports from ARY News and SAMAA TV, airport teams are strictly checking ages at the boarding gates.

Age Limit Check: Passengers under 15 years old cannot board any Hajj-bound flights. Airline staff will stop them at check-in. Their Hajj visa is now invalid.

Immediate Impact: Enforcement has already started. In Karachi alone, over 70 passengers were stopped from boarding early Hajj flights today.

What Happens to Your Booking?

If your family is affected by this sudden rule change, you will get your money back. The PAA confirmed that airlines will process automatic, full refunds for the cancelled tickets and visas of children. You do not need to file manual claims or wait in long lines at the airline office.

Advice for Travelers

This restriction only applies to Hajj pilgrims. If you hold a standard visit visa, work visa or are traveling to cities like Riyadh or Dammam for normal business or family visits, your flights should operate normally.

However, if you are holding a Hajj visa and traveling with anyone under 15, do not proceed to the airport. Contact your airline or travel agent immediately to confirm your booking status and refund process.
